Australian Outback survival: Carolina Wilga recounts 12-day ordeal
Carolina Wilga, a 27-year-old backpacker, survived twelve days in the Australian Outback following a vehicle accident. The incident occurred when Wilga swerved to avoid an oncoming car, causing her van to crash down an embankment.
After the crash, Wilga wandered through the wilderness without shoes, a mobile phone, or any survival equipment, wearing only a cotton dress and a scarf. She navigated by using the sun for orientation and attempted to walk west toward civilization.
Wilga credits her survival to finding water in rock slabs and utilizing meditation and breathing techniques she learned during yoga training in India. She has documented her experience in her book, ‘Dem Outback entkommen’ (Escaping the Outback).
