Australian Senator Pauline Hanson renews call for public burka ban and monoculturalism

Senator Pauline Hanson, leader of the One Nation party, has reiterated her proposal to prohibit the wearing of burkas in public spaces in Australia, arguing it is needed for security and national identity. The measure does not have the parliamentary support required to become law and has faced criticism as discriminatory.

In a recent National Press Club address, Hanson also criticised multiculturalism, linking immigration to social problems and advocating a shift to “monoculturalism.” She framed immigration as a threat to Australia’s “Judeo‑Christian” values, continuing a long‑standing anti‑immigration narrative within her party.

Both proposals remain part of her broader political platform ahead of upcoming elections, but their implementation appears unlikely without broader legislative backing.
