Australia's One Nation Party Faces Immigration Policy Critique

Australian political commentator Jim Chalmers described Pauline Hanson’s One Nation as a “wholly owned subsidiary” of mining magnate Gina Rinehart after the billionaire funded Hanson’s travel to Europe, raising concerns about the party’s financial ties.

One Nation’s proposal to sharply reduce immigration has been examined by the Parliamentary Budget Office. The PBO’s model indicates that the cuts could shrink Australia’s total GDP by about 10 % by 2036‑37 compared with current forecasts, but would have little impact on GDP per person. Analysts stress that without productivity growth, immigration levels alone will not improve living standards.

Critics argue the party’s focus on immigration distracts from broader economic issues such as wage stagnation and housing stress, while the party maintains that lower migration will protect Australian workers.
