Australia’s rooftop solar hits 26.4 GW as home‑battery rebates near 500,000 installations

In the three months to the end of June 2026, Australia added more than 700 MW of rooftop solar to the National Electricity Market, raising cumulative rooftop capacity from 25.7 GW at the end of the first quarter to 26.4 GW by the end of the second quarter. The increase now covers about 3.9 million installations, according to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate scheme has installed 487,000 discounted home‑battery systems, providing roughly 13 GWh of behind‑the‑meter storage and on track to reach half a million installations by August. Energy Minister Chris Bowen highlighted the figures at the Australian Clean Energy Summit, noting they counter recent climate‑change misinformation.
