Austria boosts family summer activities with camp subsidies and railway excursions

The Burgenland state government announced a solidarity fund to help low‑income families send their children to summer camps. Eligible families can receive a grant of up to €126 per child, with income thresholds of €1,498 for single parents and €2,001 for two‑parent households. The fund is financed with €100,000 for the current year and applications are processed confidentially through district offices.

Separately, Niederösterreichische Landesbahnen (NÖVOG) unveiled its 2026 summer program for families, featuring themed train rides on the Waldviertelbahn. Highlights include the Alpaca Express on 4 July, musical trips on 12 and 19 July, a beer festival ride on 19 July, old‑timer and candle‑light journeys, and a “Mohnnudel” excursion on 23 August. Passengers who collect stamps from at least four trips can claim prizes worth up to €1,000.

Both initiatives aim to make the summer season more accessible and enjoyable for Austrian families.
