Austria expects heavy traffic and road closures this weekend

The ARBÖ is warning of heavy traffic and significant delays across Austria during the final weekend of August, from August 27 to August 30. The congestion is expected due to a combination of ongoing summer travel toward the south and increasing return traffic from regions such as Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia.

Friday afternoon is expected to see increased density on city exits and north-south connections. Saturday is projected to be the busiest travel day, while Sunday will see heavy return traffic, particularly from midday. Major motorways likely to experience delays include the A1, A2, A4, A9, A10, A11, A12, and A13, as well as the A23 in Vienna.

Several large-scale sporting events will cause additional road closures. In Zell am See-Kaprun, the IRONMAN 70.3 will involve approximately 2,500 athletes, affecting roads B311, B168, and B164. In Tirol, the 45th Ötztaler Radmarathon will see 4,000 participants, causing early morning closures. Additionally, the ‘Kärnten Läuft’ half marathon near Lake Wörthersee will impact the B83 road.

In Vienna, traffic will be further impacted by the Gürtel Nightwalk on Saturday, a football match between Rapid Wien and Sturm Graz on Sunday, and a concert by Diljit Dosanjh at the Wiener Stadthalle.
