Austria expects heavy weekend traffic on major transit routes
Major traffic congestion is expected across Austria's north-south transit routes this weekend due to the end of summer holidays in several German states and the Netherlands, combined with the Ferragosto holiday in Italy.
Traffic experts from ARBÖ and ÖAMTC warn of significant delays on key routes including the Tauern, Brenner, and Pyhrn motorways, as well as the Pack and Fernpass roads. Specific bottlenecks identified include the Karawanken Tunnel, the A1 near Salzburg, and various construction zones on the A2, A9, and A10 motorways.
On the A10 Tauern Autobahn, additional access restrictions are scheduled near Kuchl and Golling to prevent traffic from diverting into local communities. Travelers are advised to plan for extra travel time or depart early to avoid the heaviest waves of traffic.
