Austria experiences heavy travel traffic and delays
Heavy travel traffic and multiple accidents caused significant delays across Austria on Saturday, August 29, 2026. According to ÖAMTC mobility information, the most affected areas included Tyrol, Carinthia, and Salzburg.
In Carinthia and Slovenia, travelers faced block-processing (Blockabfertigung) at the Karawanken Tunnel (A11). Significant delays were also reported on the Fernpass road (B179) in Tyrol and the Tauern Autobahn (A10) due to an accident in a construction zone and subsequent congestion near the Helbersberg Tunnel.
Other notable disruptions included a six-kilometer traffic jam on the Pyhrn Autobahn (A9) following an accident involving a caravan, and traffic stoppages at the Loibl Pass in Carinthia due to accidents.
