Austria health study shows rising AI use for medical inquiries

A study conducted by Wiener Städtische Versicherung AG involving 1,000 Austrians aged 16 to 70 reveals that artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming a primary resource for health-related questions, particularly among individuals under 35. While 59% of participants reported using AI for health topics, 40% found the information provided to be helpful.

Despite the rise in AI usage, trust in medical professionals remains significantly higher, with over 80% of respondents placing more trust in doctors. Approximately 70% of those who consulted an AI still proceeded to see a physician.

The study also highlighted dissatisfaction with the Austrian healthcare system. Roughly 20% of participants expressed dissatisfaction, citing shortages of general practitioners and specialists with public insurance contracts. Long waiting times were a major concern, with 60% of respondents noting that delays in accessing public healthcare are a primary reason for considering private health insurance.
