Austria implements wage increases and higher protected income levels

Approximately 250,000 workers in Austria's hospitality and hotel sectors will receive wage increases starting October 2026. Under a new collective agreement reached between employers and the GPA and vida unions, wages will rise by an average of approximately 3 percent. Lower-income earners will see a 3.48 percent increase, while apprentices will receive an average raise of 3.44 percent. Additionally, a one-time bonus of up to 275 euros will be paid to eligible employees, with apprentices receiving up to 175 euros. Employers must complete these payments by December 31, 2026.

Separately, changes to the protected portion of wages and pensions for individuals facing debt garnishment will take effect on January 1, 2027. The general basic amount for the subsistence minimum will increase from 1,308 euros to 1,351.57 euros per month. This adjustment is intended to ensure individuals retain more funds for basic living needs. The new amounts will be applied automatically without the need for special requests.
