Austria insurance tax revenue rises to 4.41 billion euros
Austrian insurance companies saw a significant increase in tax revenue in 2025. According to the VVO, total tax revenue from insurance and fire protection taxes rose by 5.2 percent to 4.41 billion euros, a stronger growth rate than in previous years.
This total includes 1.44 billion euros in 'Insurance Tax 1' (a 6.5 percent increase) and 2.90 billion euros in 'Insurance Tax 2' related to motor insurance (a 5.1 percent increase). Conversely, fire protection tax revenue fell by 10.5 percent to 72.69 million euros.
In terms of premiums, Austrian insurers generated 22.34 billion euros in 2025, representing a 4.3 percent increase over 2024. Growth varied across sectors: health insurance rose by 8.4 percent, motor vehicle insurance by 6.4 percent, accident insurance by 4.3 percent, property and casualty insurance by 3.7 percent, and life insurance by 0.9 percent.
