Austria records best summer tourism season and launches Vision T strategy

Austria’s tourism sector posted its strongest early‑summer performance since records began in 1973/74. In May and June, provisional figures from Statistik Austria showed 22.35 million overnight stays, a 1.5 % rise over the previous year.

International arrivals reached 15.1 million nights, up 2.9 %, with notable growth from Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and an 8.4 % surge from the United States. Tourism Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner described the figures as a sign of trust in Austria’s hospitality and quality standards.

The government linked the results to its new “Vision T” framework, unveiled with around 500 tourism, business and regional stakeholders. The plan, covering 2025‑2035, targets sustained competitiveness, regional value creation and preservation of Austria’s distinctive tourism appeal, while promising reduced bureaucracy, improved infrastructure and a stable workforce.
