Austria reports 63,459 cybercrime cases as direct attacks rise

Austria continues to face high levels of cybercrime, with 63,459 reported cases according to the Cybercrime Report 2025. While internet fraud and extortion saw slight declines, direct cyberattacks increased by 8.6 percent, rising from 20,246 cases in 2024 to 21,988 in 2025.

Online fraud remains the most frequent offense, accounting for nearly half of all reported crimes. Specifically, complex investment and cyber trading frauds caused approximately 120 million euros in damages in 2025. Despite the rising complexity of attacks, police reported an increase in solved cases, rising from 3,293 in 2024 to 4,026 in 2025, which officials attribute to improved prevention efforts.
