Cybercrime trends in Austria

Overview

Austria reported 63,459 cybercrime cases in 2025, according to the Cybercrime Report 2025. While internet fraud and extortion experienced slight declines, direct cyberattacks rose by 8.6 percent, increasing from 20,246 cases in 2024 to 21,988 in 2025.

Online fraud remains the most frequent offense, representing nearly half of all reported crimes. Complex investment and cyber trading frauds resulted in approximately 120 million euros in damages during 2025. Despite the increasing complexity of these attacks, police reported that the number of solved cases rose from 3,293 in 2024 to 4,026 in 2025, a trend officials attribute to improved prevention efforts.
