Austria tourism shows mixed summer results with growth in high-end hotels

Austria's tourism sector reported mixed results for the summer season through August. Nationally, there were 63.31 million overnight stays, representing a 2.3% increase compared to the previous year. However, performance varied significantly by region and hotel category. While Vienna and Tyrol saw growth, Lower Austria and Burgenland experienced declines in overnight stays, despite seeing increases in international guests.

There is a notable divergence in the hospitality market based on star ratings. The 1-to-3-star hotel segment saw a decline of 2.4% during the summer, whereas 4-and-5-star hotels grew by 2.3%.

In Upper Austria, the summer season showed positive trends with 4.3 million overnight stays, a 3.4% increase from the previous year. This growth was driven largely by international visitors, which rose by 6.1%. Significant increases in overnight stays were recorded from guests arriving from the Czech Republic (+26%) and Poland (+24.3%), alongside growth from Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.
