Austrian fire incidents: vehicle blaze in Ötztal-Bahnhof and lightning‑sparked forest fires in Osttirol

On 13 July 2026, a worker operating a boom lift in Wiesrainstraße, Ötztal‑Bahnhof, Austria, accidentally contacted a live power line, igniting the machine’s motor. The volunteer fire brigade responded with a KLF and TLF, used a fast‑water system from a safe distance, awaited power shutdown, and then entered with breathing apparatus to fully extinguish the blaze. No injuries were reported.

Later, a lightning strike sparked a forest fire on the Brunnerberg area between Polling and the Gsengalm in Osttirol. Police helicopters, a thermal‑imaging drone, and around 60 firefighters from Carinthia were deployed. A parallel lightning‑induced fire on the Rautalm in Carinthia was also tackled. Both fires were contained by about 19:30, with no casualties, and authorities imposed temporary bans on open fires in the affected zones.
