Austrian firefighters support wildfire efforts in Sardinia

Firefighters from Lower Austria participated in the EU Prepositioning Project to support local emergency services in combating vegetation fires on the island of Sardinia. A total of 50 firefighters from the region were deployed to the Mediterranean island to assist in wildfire suppression and engage in knowledge exchange.

Operating under extreme conditions with temperatures reaching approximately 40 degrees Celsius, the teams focused on containment strategies. The mission also served as a learning opportunity, specifically regarding Sardinian techniques designed to minimize water usage by extinguishing fires around the perimeter to contain them.
