Austrian police confiscate car of Belarusian driver after extreme speeding

On 26 July 2026, Austrian highway police stopped a 36‑year‑old Belarusian driver on the Westautobahn near Allhaming. He was recorded traveling at 196 km/h in a 130 km/h zone and later at 201 km/h where the limit was 100 km/h. After the stop his licence was temporarily withdrawn, the vehicle was seized and a security deposit of €2,430 was imposed.

In Germany, police in the Märkischer Kreis conducted speed checks on the B‑54 and other local roads, examining more than 1,200 vehicles. Among the violations, a motorcyclist was caught at 97 km/h in a 50 km/h zone and 252 drivers overall exceeded the limit, resulting in fines, warnings and several driving bans.

Both incidents illustrate intensified enforcement of speed limits in Austria and Germany, with authorities seizing vehicles, issuing penalties and pursuing legal actions against repeat offenders.
