Overview

Since mid‑June 2026 police in Germany, Austria and Switzerland have intensified highway and tunnel checks, targeting extreme speeding, drug trafficking and public‑order breaches. Cross‑border speed checks on Austria’s A10 and the Gotthard tunnel exposed drivers exceeding limits by up to 130 km/h, leading to licence withdrawals after inspections on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. German patrols on 13 July recorded multiple violations, including a drunk e‑scooter rider. In Switzerland, Luzern officers seized two motorcycles travelling 246 km/h in the A2 Schlund tunnel, and a Bern camera later caught a 42‑year‑old Briton at 196 km/h on the Passo del Susten, triggering a criminal charge under the “Raser‑delikt” law. Vaud canton stopped a motorcyclist at 181 km/h on the Route du Marchairuz, resulting in licence seizure and possible prison time.

On 26 July Austrian highway police seized the car of a 36‑year‑old Belarusian driver on the Westautobahn near Allhaming after he was recorded at 196 km/h in a 130 km/h zone and 201 km/h where the limit was 100 km/h; his licence was temporarily withdrawn and a €2,430 security deposit was imposed. The same day German officers in the Märkischer Kreis inspected more than 1,200 vehicles on the B‑54 and surrounding roads, catching a motorcyclist at 97 km/h in a 50 km/h zone and issuing fines, warnings and several driving bans to 252 speed‑limit violators.

In Oberpullendorf a coordinated operation uncovered licence‑plate fraud, unregistered vehicles, a 14‑year‑old on an unlicensed moped, and numerous alcohol‑ or drug‑influenced drivers; all received citations and travel bans. These actions illustrate a sustained, cross‑border crackdown on high‑speed and other traffic violations, with authorities imposing fines, licence suspensions, vehicle seizures and criminal proceedings.
