Austrian Police Detain Bulgarian Theft Duo and Local Couple in Fraud Case

A pair of 51‑year‑old Bulgarian nationals were arrested in Vienna after investigations linked them to at least ten theft offenses across several Austrian states since December 2024. Police observed the suspects targeting supermarkets, with the woman allegedly stealing a wallet containing thousands of euros from an 86‑year‑old man. Both were taken into custody in the Landstraße district and transferred to the Graz‑Jakomini detention centre.

Separately, a 40‑year‑old husband and wife from Vienna‑Floridsdorf were detained on 10 June following a lengthy police investigation into systematic online‑merchant fraud. Acting on a court order, authorities searched their home and seized over 480 items believed to have been obtained through fabricated damage claims and return scams, causing losses exceeding €20,000. The couple was placed in Wiener Neustadt detention on 11 June and have refused to give statements.

Both cases are being investigated by regional police forces, and further legal proceedings are ongoing.
