European fraud and theft arrests continue

Overview

In June 2026, Austrian police arrested two Bulgarian nationals for supermarket thefts and a Viennese couple for online-merchant fraud involving over €20,000 in losses. Throughout July, German authorities conducted various enforcement actions. At Frankfurt Airport, police detained an Albanian national accused of a multi-million-euro investment fraud and a woman linked to a romance scam. In August, Hamburg authorities arrested a German man with prior convictions for theft and bodily harm at the airport, and a Ukrainian national at Hamburg-Harburg station for subsidy fraud related to unpaid fines. On 10 August, German police conducted further operations. In Munich, a 47-year-old man was detained after threatening subway passengers with a knife and was placed in a psychiatric facility; a 67-year-old man was also investigated for the alleged sexual harassment of a train employee. In Hamburg, Federal Police arrested three men on outstanding warrants, including a 27-year-old, a 21-year-old Tunisian national, and a 39-year-old Ukrainian national. In Euskirchen, a 42-year-old man with an active warrant was apprehended at a bus station with a high blood alcohol level.
