Police respond to shooting in Hamburg and crime crackdowns in Austria
In Hamburg, shots were fired at a public bus in the Neuwiedenthal district following a dispute involving a 16-year-old girl. The girl had reportedly sought refuge in the bus after fleeing a group of youths. While no injuries were reported, the bus sustained damage to its windows. Police identified a 17-year-old Ukrainian national as a suspect; a search of his residence uncovered an air pressure weapon and ammunition. Authorities are investigating potential attempted dangerous bodily harm.
In Vienna, law enforcement conducted several major operations targeting various criminal activities. A targeted crackdown on youth crime in Austria has resulted in over 1,600 arrests since March 2024, including the seizure of 210 weapons. In a separate incident in Vienna-Favoriten, a 62-year-old man was arrested after threatening someone with a gas pressure pistol during an argument in a weapons-prohibited zone.
Additionally, coordinated raids by the Financial Police and special task forces in several Vienna districts uncovered illegal gambling operations. Authorities seized several illegal slot machines and discovered instances of illegal electricity and gas consumption used to power the operations. One individual was also arrested for illegal employment.
