Austrian police stop learner drivers for extreme speeding on B1

On the night of 16 July 2026, a 19‑year‑old holder of a learner’s permit from the Vöcklabruck district was pursued by police on the B1 highway. Despite speed limits of 80 km/h and 100 km/h, she reached 150 km/h and 165 km/h in separate sections and continued at 150 km/h even after the limit was reduced to 80 km/h. She was eventually stopped, questioned and now faces a speeding charge.

The day before, 15 July 2026, the Linz‑Land district police carried out a focused traffic operation along the same B1 to curb the “roadrunner” scene. Five patrols recorded several violations, including two drivers with learner permits exceeding 70 km/h by up to 150 km/h, multiple instances of alcohol and drug impairment, illegal vehicle lighting and noise, and unsafe driving behaviours. The offenders received provisional licence withdrawals, fines and criminal complaints for substance‑related offences and other violations.
