Austrian tourism shows strong demand and growing off-season value
Recent data highlights evolving trends in the Austrian tourism sector, characterized by both high demand for future travel and a growing importance of the off-season market.
A YouGov survey commissioned by Tui Austria indicates strong interest in the 2026/2027 winter season, with 45% of respondents having already booked or planning trips. Preferred travel types include city trips (43%), beach holidays (36%), and wellness (32%). Despite this optimism, economic pressures from inflation are noted by Statistik Austria, which may lead to shorter stays and altered spending patterns.
Simultaneously, Austria Tourism reports that the off-season (spring and autumn) has become a high-value segment. According to the ‘T-MONA Nebensaisonen 2025’ study, guests traveling during these periods tend to be older, well-educated, and possess higher purchasing power. These travelers spend more per day—averaging 228 euros in spring and 198 euros in autumn—compared to 188 euros during the summer season. Astrid Steharnig-Staudinger, CEO of Austria Tourism, noted that year-round tourism helps stabilize investments and permanent employment.
