Austrian travel trends show high demand for summer holidays

A study commissioned by Billa Reisen and conducted by Ipsos reveals that 86 percent of Austrians are taking or have taken a summer vacation this year. The desire to travel is particularly high among young adults aged 20 to 29, with 95 percent participating in travel.

Nearly half of the respondents (49 percent) are spending their primary summer holiday abroad, while 36 percent prefer staying within Austria. When choosing a destination, weather and climate are the most significant factors for 41 percent of travelers, followed closely by price at 39 percent. Other considerations include short travel distances and the opportunity to experience new things.

Greece remains the top international destination for Austrian travelers, followed by Turkey and Spain. Notably, Bulgaria has seen significant growth, with both guest numbers and revenue doubling compared to the previous year. Egypt has also shown substantial increases. Mark Tantz, CEO of DERTOUR Austria, noted that Austrian travelers tend to book early, travel in family-oriented groups, and prefer established destinations.
