Austria's Carinthian Lakes and Semmering‑Rax Alps Boost Tourism

Carinthia, the lake‑rich region of southern Austria, boasts more than 1,270 standing waters, many with drinking‑water quality. Its four largest lakes – the Wörthersee, Millstätter See, Ossiacher See and Weißensee – draw countless visitors each year and form a cornerstone of the state’s tourism sector. The Klopeiner See reaches up to 29 °C in summer, making it one of Europe’s warmest bathing lakes, while the high‑altitude Eissee sits at roughly 2,800 m.

The Semmering‑Rax area, a UNESCO World‑Heritage site, celebrated a century of pioneering mountain‑railway history in 2024.
