Santo Tomás de los Plátanos: Seven sentenced for aiding mayor's escape

Seven individuals, including former public officials and civilians, have been sentenced for their roles in the escape of Pedro Luis 'Wicho' Hernández Paz, the elected mayor of Santo Tomás de los Plátanos in the State of Mexico. The incident occurred on December 17, 2024, during a law enforcement operation known as 'Operación Enjambre' while authorities were attempting to serve an arrest warrant during his inauguration ceremony.

The State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office secured these convictions through an abbreviated procedure. The charges included evasion, abuse of authority, violent robbery, and damage to property. Sentences vary, with Ángel Díaz Zarco receiving 14 years in prison and Martín Santana Martínez receiving 12 years and eight months. Other participants received sentences ranging from four years and eight months to eight years and eight months.
