Authorities crack down on educational recruitment fraud in Ghana and Panama

Authorities in Ghana and Panama have taken action against criminal activities targeting educational recruitment processes.

In Ghana, the Ghana Education Service (GES) arrested two individuals accused of soliciting bribes from applicants during an ongoing recruitment exercise. Two additional suspects remain at large. The arrested individuals have been arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court 6. GES management emphasized that recruitment involves no fees and warned applicants to remain vigilant against those demanding payment for job offers or appointment letters.

In Panama, law enforcement executed ‘Operation Credentials 1.0’, dismantling a criminal network involved in forging university diplomas to secure teaching positions. More than 20 people were captured during simultaneous raids across several provinces, including Panama and Colón. The network allegedly used the names and logos of prestigious universities to create counterfeit degrees, allowing buyers to manipulate scores within the Human Resources System (SIARHE) and displace qualified educators. Prosecutors seized forged transcripts, diplomas, and electronic devices as evidence.
