Authorities investigate animal cruelty cases in Argentina and Bolivia
Authorities in Argentina and Bolivia are pursuing legal actions following separate incidents of animal mistreatment and illegal wildlife possession.
In Gualjaina, Argentina, prosecutors have formalized an investigation into the alleged abuse of a horse named ‘René’. The investigation focuses on a period between March and April during which the animal was reportedly deprived of necessary food and water at a rural establishment. This neglect resulted in severe malnutrition and extreme physical weakness. A judge rejected defense requests for dismissal and nullity, maintaining the ongoing legal process.
In Cochabamba, Bolivia, Zoonosis personnel and the Forest and Environmental Police (Pofoma) rescued several animals from a residence in Alto Cochabamba. The rescue included two monkeys found tied up and exposed to sunlight, several parrots, and four dachshunds, one of which suffered from spinal and hip injuries due to lack of veterinary care. The owner was apprehended for illegal possession of wildlife and animal cruelty; the animals are being transferred to specialized care centers.
