Authorities investigate prison escapes in Argentina and Chile

Authorities in Argentina and Chile are investigating separate incidents involving prison escapes and official misconduct.

In Posadas, Argentina, three inmates escaped from the Comisaría Quinta after cutting cell bars. The fugitives include Gustavo Fraga and Ramsés Fachinello, both charged with theft, and Lucio Blanco, charged with threats and damages. Police have launched an extensive search operation, while Internal Affairs has begun an administrative investigation to determine if custody personnel were responsible for the evasion. Additionally, in Puerto Iguazú, two police officers were detained following allegations of a corruption scheme involving extortion and bribery of detainees.

In Copiapó, Chile, the Atacama Prosecutor's Office has expanded the detention of three officials suspected of involvement in the escape of Néstor Jair Quiñones Hernández. Quiñones, who was serving a 10-year sentence for aggravated homicide, allegedly escaped during a court-authorized transfer for a family activity. The detained individuals are employees of the Paipote detention center. Investigations are ongoing to determine if the officials facilitated the flight.
