Authorities seize illegal waste sites in Castel Volturno and Scicli
Authorities in Italy have seized two separate illegal dumping sites in Castel Volturno and Scicli following investigations into environmental crimes.
In Castel Volturno, the Provincial Police of Caserta seized a 6,500-square-meter area and a 1,000-square-meter industrial warehouse. The site contained hazardous materials, including asbestos, paint drums, asphalt scraps, demolition waste, and dismantled car parts. An entrepreneur from Ischia has been reported to the Public Prosecutor, and the site remains under judicial seizure while environmental agencies analyze the health and ecological risks.
In Scicli, police from the Ragusa Provincial Environmental Nucleus and the Forestry Inspectorate discovered an illegal landfill on approximately 10,000 square meters of agricultural land. The site contained electronic waste, plastics, metals, wood, bulky items, and construction debris. The local municipality has issued an ordinance requiring the owner to remove all waste via authorized operators and restore the land to its original agricultural state within 90 days.
