Automakers drive major shifts in the Indian automotive market

The Indian automobile sector is anticipating significant shifts as major manufacturers expand their local presence and product lineups. Hyundai has unveiled a first look at the 2027 Tucson, featuring a more modern, boxy ‘Art of Steel’ design and premium interior upgrades. While official Indian launch details are pending, the model represents a significant update to Hyundai's SUV offerings.

In a major strategic move, Skoda Auto is nearing a partnership in India. Global CEO Klaus Zellmer indicated that negotiations for a manufacturing joint venture between Skoda Auto Volkswagen India and JSW Group are in the final stages, with a non-binding agreement expected soon. This partnership may encompass manufacturing, sales, and marketing. Furthermore, the Volkswagen Group is considering an investment of approximately 2 billion euros in India over the next decade, focusing heavily on developing electric vehicle (EV) platforms to reduce import dependency and lower costs.

Kia India is also strengthening its SUV portfolio. The company is planning to introduce a new mid-size B-segment SUV, potentially targeting a launch around 2028-29 to fill the gap between the Syros and Seltos models. Additionally, Kia is reportedly working on a C-segment 7-seater SUV to sit between the Seltos and Sorento, aiming to capture a broader range of consumer needs.
