Automakers expand electrified vehicle offerings in the Philippines
The Philippine automotive market is seeing a significant shift toward electrified vehicles, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. Toyota Motor Philippines, which introduced the country’s first hybrid in 2009, continues to see consumer interest in models like the Zenix HEV, with users reporting notable improvements in fuel efficiency.
In a parallel development, Mazda Philippines is preparing to launch the CX-80 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The model has received recognition from the Department of Energy (DOE) in two configurations: the CX-80 Premium and the CX-80 Exclusive. Both variants feature a 2.5-liter powertrain combining a Skyactiv-G engine with an electric motor to produce a total of 327 horsepower. The CX-80 is equipped with a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing an estimated all-electric range of approximately 62 kilometers.
