GIIAS 2026 shows strong growth for electric and hybrid vehicles in Indonesia

The 2026 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) concluded with strong performance across various automotive sectors, highlighting a significant shift toward electric and hybrid vehicles in Indonesia.

Wuling Motors emerged as a major success, recording 3,290 vehicle orders (SPK), driven largely by the Aira EV, which accounted for approximately 68% of their total orders. Similarly, Geely Group saw a threefold increase in orders compared to the previous year, with the Geely EX2 contributing 70% of their total SPK.

Other manufacturers also reported notable results: Mitsubishi Motors secured 3,212 orders, led by the New Xforce, while Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia recorded 1,180 orders, with the Elf model being the most popular. Daihatsu achieved 591 orders, and DFSK recorded 625.

The event also showcased a growing interest in hybrid technology, with Toyota seeing high engagement at its Hybrid EV displays. On the motorcycle front, awards were given to models like the ALVA N3 Next Gen for electric motorcycles and the Honda NX500 for big bikes.

Economic indicators from the event suggest a recovering market, with Gaikindo reporting an increase in wholesale and retail sales for the first half of 2026. Additionally, the multifinance sector is seeing rising demand for electric vehicle financing, which grew significantly through mid-2026.
