This policy, guided by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, aims to ensure incentives increase local production capacity and investment rather than just driving sales.

To support long-term sustainability and the goal of Net Zero Emissions by 2060, the Ministry of Environment is developing an EV battery waste management ecosystem, targeted for completion by mid-2027. This includes drafting regulations this year to manage hazardous waste and utilizing dealers and workshops as collection points, potentially offering incentives for battery exchanges. The government continues to collaborate with stakeholders like KADIN and GAIKINDO to balance industrial growth with safety and social involvement.
