Automobile Club d'Italia warns of car tax phishing scam
The Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI) has issued a warning regarding a phishing campaign targeting citizens through fraudulent communications about unpaid car taxes (bollo auto). The scam uses the ACI name, logo, and graphic design to trick individuals into believing they owe outstanding taxes and penalties.
According to reports from CERT-AGID, the fraudulent scheme operates via fake domains such as acitalia.info and acitalia.click. Victims are prompted to enter personal information, including their tax code, license plate number, date of birth, and home address. The process concludes with a request for a payment of 15.87 euros, requiring full credit card details, including the CVV.
The ACI emphasizes that its only official website is www.aci.it and that official car tax services are only accessible through public administration authentication systems like SPID or CIE. The organization stated it has never authorized the use of its branding for such communications and has reported the abuse to the relevant authorities.
