Automotive market trends show rising new car costs and shifting used car prices
The automotive market is experiencing significant shifts in pricing and availability. An analysis by the German automobile club ADAC reveals that the average price of the cheapest small internal combustion engine vehicles has increased by over 80 percent over the last 13 years. In 2013, the average price for these models was 13,244 euros, rising to 25,357 euros by 2025. This trend is driven by manufacturers focusing on higher-margin larger vehicles and the necessity of integrating advanced safety and emission technologies.
In the Slovakian used car market, August saw a favorable trend for nearly new vehicles (under five years old with less than 50,000 km). The average price for these vehicles decreased year-on-year by 420 euros. Meanwhile, the average price for all used cars reached 12,895 euros in August, a decrease of 565 euros compared to June. Regional differences in Slovakia remain notable, with the highest average prices for used cars found in the Bratislava region and the lowest in the Banská Bystrica region.
