Autonomous vehicle deployment expands across Europe
Autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicle technology is expanding across Europe following the approval of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Supervised mode in several EU member states. Waymo has announced plans to launch its first EU operations in Munich, Germany, by 2027.
In Madrid, authorities have authorized Uber, WeRide, and AVOMO to begin mapping and testing autonomous passenger services, with trips expected to commence by late 2026. Meanwhile, WeRide has partnered with Zurich Airport to deploy driverless buses for passenger transfers to remote aircraft positions.
In Croatia, Pony.ai and Verne—a spinoff of Rimac—are conducting autonomous driving tests between Zagreb Airport and the city's business district using Nvidia-based technology. Additionally, Swedish transport firm Einride, in collaboration with Lidl, has received German regulatory approval for Level 4 standard electric trucks, which are slated for deployment on German roads.
