Autumn agricultural and garden maintenance practices

Autumn provides an optimal window for soil and lawn regeneration. For agricultural crops such as corn, sugar beets, and sunflowers, liming is recommended between September and November. These nutrient-intensive crops often leave soil with reduced pH levels, requiring acidification to restore optimal growing conditions. Experts suggest that applying calcium carbonate during this period allows the lime to dissolve gradually in moist, warm soil throughout the winter, providing stable results by spring.

For residential gardens, lawn renovation through aeration and overseeding is most effective from September to mid-October, provided soil temperatures remain above 8°C. The process involves low mowing, deep vertical aeration to remove thatch and moss, clearing organic debris, sowing regenerative grass seeds, and consistent watering for 14 to 21 days. The use of battery-powered equipment is noted for reducing noise and eliminating exhaust emissions during these tasks.
