August gardening advice for Europe and US

Czech gardeners are advised to sow lettuce, radish, spinach, beetroot and other vegetables before the first frosts, benefiting from cooler nights and reliable rain that improve crop quality. In France and Germany, sweet peas can still be sown 8‑10 weeks before the first frost, requiring regular moisture, shade cloth and mulch. August remains a prime time for harvesting summer fruits (apples, pears, peaches, plums, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, berries) and cutting herbs such as basil and parsley. Garden‑care tasks include early‑morning or evening watering, pruning roses, applying autumn fertilizer to lawns, pest control and trimming shrubs, while autumn vegetables and spring‑flower bulbs are sown to establish before winter.
