Autumn garden maintenance tips for lawns and ladybugs
As autumn progresses, gardeners are advised to prepare their lawns and manage seasonal insect activity. For lawn care, the timing of the final mow depends on temperature and growth rather than a specific calendar date. Mowing should continue as long as temperatures remain mild and grass is actively growing, but it must stop once growth ceases. It is recommended to avoid mowing on frozen or wet ground and to maintain a cutting height of approximately four to five centimeters for standard lawns.
Additionally, ladybugs are increasingly seeking winter quarters, often entering homes through open windows. To prevent them from entering, residents can seal window gaps or use fly screens, or employ scents like lavender and laurel as deterrents. If ladybugs are found indoors, they should be carefully collected and released outside in protected areas, as indoor environments are too warm for them to survive the winter effectively.
