Autumn planting guide for spring flowers

Autumn provides an ideal window for gardeners to plant bulbs and perennials that will bloom during late winter or early spring. Planting during this period allows plants to establish roots before the soil freezes.

Recommended spring-blooming bulbs include tulips, daffodils, and snowdrops. Tulips are versatile for beds or containers and should be planted in well-drained, sunny locations between October and November. Daffodils are noted for their reliability and ability to return annually, performing well in sunny spots or under deciduous trees.

Other suitable plants for autumn planting include winter pansies, wall pansies, forget-me-nots, bellis, and primulas. Winter pansies are hardy enough to maintain color through mild winters, while forget-me-nots pair well with taller tulips. Bellis and primulas are effective for edging paths or filling containers, provided they are planted in well-draining soil.
