Ava DuVernay premieres documentary ‘14th’ at London Film Festival

Director Ava DuVernay presented her new Netflix documentary, ‘14th’, as a Special Documentary Presentation at the London Film Festival. The film follows her previous work, ‘13th’, and examines the current state of the 14th Amendment.

The documentary explores foundational principles such as birthright citizenship, due process, and equal protection under the law, arguing that these post-Civil War ratifications are facing systematic attacks. DuVernay aimed to include a diverse range of perspectives, noting that she reached out to over 300 individuals identified as Republican or MAGA, though only four agreed to participate.

Interview subjects include Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Stacey Abrams, social justice activist Bryan Stevenson, political streamer Hasan Piker, and Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna. The film follows its recent debut at the New York Film Festival.
