Avangrid starts panel installation for 57 MW Oregon Trail Solar project in Oregon

Avangrid Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Iberdrola, has begun installing more than 100,000 photovoltaic panels at the Oregon Trail Solar development in Gilliam County, Oregon. The solar facility is designed for a capacity of 57 MW dc (41 MW ac) and will generate enough electricity to power roughly 10,000 average homes.

The construction phase will employ about 200 workers and is expected to be completed in 2027. Energy from the plant will supply regional Amazon data centers and will contribute an estimated $6 million in combined payment‑in‑lieu‑of‑taxes and property taxes to support local schools, roads, and other public services. The project sits adjacent to Avangrid’s operating Pachwáywit Fields solar plant (205 MW) and the new Shutler Energy Storage facility (41 MW/82 MWh), forming a growing renewable‑energy hub in Oregon.

The Oregon Trail Solar project is part of Avangrid’s broader 2.5 GW portfolio of solar assets in the state and reflects Iberdrola’s strategy to expand zero‑emission generation in the United States.
