Avante Festival celebrates 50th anniversary in Portugal

The Avante Festival, organized by the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), celebrated its 50th anniversary from September 4 to 6, 2026, in Amora, near Lisbon. The event drew tens of thousands of daily visitors and featured music, culture, and political discussions.

Over 100 delegations from international sister parties attended the festival, including representatives from the Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain (PCPE), the German Communist Party (DKP), the Italian Communist Party, and others. These delegations used the event to coordinate international relations and discuss global issues such as militarization, imperialism, and solidarity with countries like Cuba and Venezuela.

The festival included speeches from PCP General Secretary Paulo Raimundo and video messages from Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel. The gathering served as a significant meeting point for various communist and labor parties to strengthen ties and address contemporary political challenges.
