Avante Festival 50th anniversary in Portugal

Overview

The Avante Festival, organized by the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), marked its 50th anniversary from September 4 to 6, 2026, in Amora, near Lisbon. The event attracted tens of thousands of daily visitors and featured a program of music, culture, and political discussions.

More than 100 delegations from international sister parties attended, including representatives from the Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain (PCPE), the German Communist Party (DKP), and the Italian Communist Party. These groups utilized the festival to coordinate international relations and discuss global topics such as imperialism, militarization, and solidarity with nations including Cuba and Venezuela.

The gathering included speeches by PCP General Secretary Paulo Raimundo and video messages from Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, serving as a venue for communist and labor parties to strengthen ties and address political challenges.
