Multiple fatal incidents involving domestic fires and gas poisoning have been reported across Italy.

In Avegno, near Genoa, a 69-year-old former teacher, Gabriella Gellio, died after re-entering her burning home to save her Maine Coon cats. While she and her husband initially escaped, she returned to the building, where the roof subsequently collapsed. Most of her approximately 20 cats were saved, though three remain missing. Authorities are investigating whether an electrical short circuit caused the blaze.

In the province of Parma, a tragedy occurred in Bocca d’Enza where a man, 35, and a woman, 32, died from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. Their seven-month-old daughter was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition, while their six-year-old son managed to escape the house independently. Investigators are looking into a potential malfunction of a heating stove.

Additionally, a family of four in Ponte a Moriano, Lucca, was hospitalized following carbon monoxide poisoning while sleeping. The father, 30, was in critical condition, and the mother and two young children were treated at a hospital in Pisa using hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
