Domestic accidents in Italy
Overview
Multiple incidents involving carbon monoxide poisoning and domestic fires have been reported across various Italian provinces.
In Treviso, a family of six was hospitalized in Loria after being poisoned by carbon monoxide, reportedly caused by a brazier used for heating. This followed a similar incident in Follina where seven family members were affected by a cooking brazier.
In the province of Parma, a 35 year old man and a 32 year old woman died from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning in Bocca d’Enza. A seven month old infant was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition, while a six year old child escaped the home. Investigators are examining a potentially malfunctioning stove as the cause.
In Avegno near Genoa, 69 year old former teacher Gabriella Gellio died during a house fire. Reports suggest she re-entered a burning building to rescue her Maine Coon cats. The fire, potentially caused by an electrical short circuit or chimney issue, resulted in a roof collapse. While most of her approximately 20 cats were saved, three remain missing.
In Ponte a Moriano, Lucca, a family of four was hospitalized following carbon monoxide poisoning while sleeping. The father, aged 30, was reported to be in critical condition, while the mother, aged 34, and two children, aged 1 and 3, received hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Following initial evaluations at the San Luca hospital emergency room, all four family members were transferred to a hyperbaric chamber at the Santa Chiara hospital in Pisa for treatment. The emergency response involved medical teams and ambulances from Lucca and Borgo a Mozzano.
