Avellino launches 13 million euro project to revitalize Irpinia villages

An agreement has been signed in Avellino to launch the “Turismo delle Radici” project, a plan aimed at the cultural, economic, and social revitalization of historical villages in the Irpinia region. The initiative, involving the Province of Avellino and several municipalities, focuses on combating depopulation and demographic decline by connecting historical emigration memory with modern development.

The project includes 13 million euros allocated to the “Green Communities Eco Smart Borghi” and the “Cammino di Guglielmo” lines. Key interventions include making historic centers more efficient and connected through smart lighting, video surveillance, digital connections, and advanced information services. Additionally, the plan involves creating the “Migrantes” Roots Tourism Museum in the former Bourbon Prison of Avellino and establishing a new tourist information point in the western part of the province.
