Irpinia tourism and village revitalization project
Overview
The Province of Avellino has initiated the ‘Turismo delle Radici’ project, a multi-faceted plan designed to revitalize historical villages in the Irpinia region by addressing depopulation and connecting emigration history with modern development.
Central to this initiative is the creation of the ‘Migrantes’ Roots Tourism Museum, to be housed in the Bourbon Prison Monumental Complex. As part of this effort, the province has launched an open tender for architecture and engineering services for the museum, with a design contract valued at approximately 345,456 euros. This project is supported by significant funding, including 70 million euros allocated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to the Province of Avellino.
The broader revitalization plan includes 13 million euros dedicated to the ‘Green Communities Eco Smart Borghi’ and ‘Cammino di Guglielmo’ lines. These funds aim to improve historic centers through digital connectivity, smart lighting, video surveillance, and advanced information services, alongside the establishment of new tourist information points.
